Ms Sandy Song is the Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory. She oversees the scientific developments and latest assessment of climate change and its impacts, and promote public understanding and awareness of climate change and extreme weather via different public communication channels and school talks. She also leads her team on the provision of climate services, climate projections, and provision of scientific support to studies by relevant government departments on the adaptation and resilience-building measures required in combating climate change and its impacts. She also supervises her team to conduct research on storm surge and tropical cyclones, past trends and future climate change projections in Hong Kong, and through the “Climate Change” webpage summarizes the past and projected climate trends in the global as well as local contexts and provides the latest updates and relevant data on climate change issues. She also oversees the international/regional collaborations on meteorological and marine aspects to promote disaster risk reduction.
