Dr. Yuhong Wang is a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Kentucky in civil engineering. Before joining PolyU, he successively worked at the Kentucky Transportation Research Center as a research engineer, Lawrence Tech. University as a tenure-track assistant professor, and East Carolina University as a tenure-track assistant professor. He started his employment at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an assistant professor in 2010. He is the founder and director of the Research Centre for Nature-based Urban Infrastructure Solutions at PolyU, in short, RNUS. By integrating ecological principles in urban design and development, the centre aims to enhance urban resilience, improve environmental quality, and foster community well-being. The Centre’s multidisciplinary team collaborates with academic institutions, industry partners, and local communities to create effective solutions that address pressing challenges in modern societies. The Centre’s vision is to become a leading organisation in promoting nature-based urban infrastructure research. The Centre and Prof. Wang are currently involved in a number of nature-based solution projects. Examples include (1) developing new road infrastructure for urban trees, (2) urban river restoration, (3) quantifying the effects of urban green spaces on heat mitigation, (4) urban flood mitigation, (5) NbS policies in urban development and urban renewal, (6) developing low-carbon nature-based construction materials, (7) rural community revitalization and urban-rural integration, (8) nature-engineering integrated urban waste management. His research outcomes have been published in top-tier journals and have led to international awards, patents, guidance, and policies.
