Prof. Panmao ZHAI

Co-Chair
Working Group I, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

 

Panmao Zhai, is Chief Scientist of the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, and Vice Chair of the National Climate Change Expert Committee in China. He has long time been involved in IPCC as the lead author for IPCC WG1 AR4 and AR5 and currently is the Co-Chair of IPCC Working Group I.

He worked in the posts as Vice President of Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, and the Secretary General of the Chinese Meteorological Society, the Director-General of Department of Forecasting and Networking, and Deputy Director-General of Department of Prediction Services and Disaster Mitigation of China Meteorological Administration.

He presided over the completion of one National Basic Research Program of China (973 program) and is now Chairing a National Key Research and Development Program of China. His main study area is on detection, attribution, and projection of extreme weather and climate events. He has published more than 150 co-authored scientific papers and received the First Prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress.
