Dr. Samuel H.K. Chui is now the Director of the Environmental Protection Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.  He is an Environmental Engineer with over 30 years of experience in the Field of Environmental Engineering.  He has been responsible for sewerage infrastructure planning, setting effluent standards for effluent discharges, enforcement of environmental legislation, supervising the Shing Mun River Bioremediation Works, the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme, the O-PARK and I-PARK.  Dr. Chui is an expert in wastewater treatment with over 40 international journal papers published, 2500 citations, 10 International and Local Awards, including The HKIE 50th Anniversary Legacy Award – Innovation Category Grand Award (2010s to Present) in 2025, and the Gold Prize of the International Water Association (IWA) Projects Innovation Awards in 2024, as well as the “Best Ph.D Thesis Award” of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 1993 – 1995.  He is now an Adjunct Professor of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the University of Hong Kong.
